TOGETHER, WE ARE MORE BEAUTIFUL
Sometimes one can’t help but wonder—how different can two sisters born from the same mother really be?
Even though they grow up under the same roof, eat the same food, and wear the same clothes, how can they behave so differently? With these questions swirling in her mind, Müberra began cleaning the house.
One of her daughters, as soon as she arrived home, would scatter her clothes and books along with her cheerful energy. The other would wash her hands, go straight to her room, hang up her school uniform, and prepare her bag for the next day. One would say “yes” to everything, while the other would say “no” before even hearing the full sentence. The endless debates between the two sisters, Ece and Eylül, were almost a part of daily life.
At times, each of them thought the other behaved that way out of sheer stubbornness. They even stopped talking to each other because of it—but Ece would forget the reason for their quarrel so quickly that their silence never lasted long. If it were up to Eylül, the cold war could last for months. But when Ece came and showed her affection, they’d sign an unspoken truce again. Eylül, though, always wished their peace could come with a little more respect.
Ece couldn’t remember either the good or the bad, while Eylül couldn’t forget any of it. Yet life became more beautiful when we remembered the good and forgot the hurts. Both sisters struggled to understand this difference between them.
While Ece enjoyed the sweetness of life, it often fell on Eylül to clean up after her. The last time they planned a vacation together, Ece researched the hotel’s beauty and activities, while Eylül focused on customer satisfaction and nearby historical sites. Neither of them found what they were looking for in that trip. When they chose a hotel for its looks, the service was disappointing; and when they went somewhere to have fun, it turned into a training seminar.
It turned out that beauty also needed depth. What was beautiful inside should also appear beautiful outside. When form and content came together, they complemented each other—and only then could they have a good holiday. Even when Ece didn’t find exactly what she wanted, she would still find something to enjoy: “The food wasn’t great, but the desserts were delicious,” or “The sea was rough, but I had fun at the pool.” Her adaptability often brought her joy—but sometimes trouble too. She needed to be cautious not to befriend the wrong people or pick up harmful habits.
As for Eylül—it wasn’t enough for one thing to be nice. The sea had to be pleasant and the pool enjoyable. The staff had to do their job perfectly. For her, only when everyone did their part right could the world be a livable place. But in life, things aren’t always flawless. In those moments, Eylül’s balance would waver. Yet life sometimes required separation, and at other times, harmony.
Looking at the two sisters, it was clear that life had given each something the other didn’t have. Why was that? They were like two pieces of a puzzle, completing one another. Each found in the other what she herself lacked. When they worked together, life was better for both.
The real challenge was to accept this truth and let go of the thought, “I am enough on my own.”
The challenge was to ask, “What can I add to the beautiful parts of my nature?”
The challenge was to notice, “Which of my traits hold me back on my life journey?”
That’s how one could truly live in harmony with one’s creation.
Because life is beautiful together.
Because life is beautiful for those who keep growing.
Because life is beautiful for those who, even through struggle, enrich their character.
