Let Our Worst Day Be Like This

After a long time, we met up with friends on the beach last night. Seeing this beach where we spent our childhood brought back so many memories. It is very interesting that some memories are never forgotten even after years.

We sat down on the camping chairs we had placed on the beach. While watching the sunset, we were sipping our delicious tea brewed in our pot. Chatting and chatting... What a pleasant environment. I hadn’t laughed and had so much fun in a long time. As the hours passed, the full moon, greeting us with its orange color, rose from the left corner of the sky. It was so bright that I was occasionally looking at the seams and daydreaming. I came to with the prodding of my friends.

‘It’s getting late, y’all. It’s my bedtime, excuse me,’ said Hakan. We hadn’t realized how late it was until he said it. When you enjoy yourself, you don’t realize how time flies. When we said goodbye, we said ‘May our worst day be like this, friends,’ and parted ways.

‘May our worst day be like this.’ I thought about this sentence all night long. People make this wish after times when they are very happy and enjoy themselves. They want this joy to continue to increase. They want to never be sad, things never go wrong, everything should be fine, they should always put in one and get ten. They even want to do nothing and expect everything should flow. In time, these wishes about this situation have turned into prayers. ‘May the one you hold be gold’, ‘May your hands not see trouble’, ‘May no stone touch your foot’...

Is it really supposed to be like this? I found myself thinking. I could never remember a long period in my life when everything was going well. When everything is good, something always goes wrong. Wanting to be happy all the time… Like entering an exam hall and insisting on not being tested.

When a person looks around, they see that life is not stable at all. They understand that everyone has ups and downs in their lives. After all, the test starts here; what do you answer during the downs, what do you answer during the ups. People think that absence is a punishment. He can say, ‘Oh God, what sin did I commit to bring this trouble upon me?’ In wealth, he says, ‘I deserve this success.’ However, isn’t wealth and poverty just a question that needs to be answered?

What will you do now? Will you be grateful enough? Will you be patient enough? Will that abundance spoil you? Will you use those opportunities to be better than yesterday or worse?

So life is constantly asking questions. Every answer given is given by a person with his own will. He is happy when things go well, and when they turn in a direction he does not want, he becomes depressed. Of course, a person does not have the ability to know the best of everything.

To illustrate; He cried for weeks about that university he could not get into, but maybe the people he would meet at that university would be the kind of people he would say, ‘I wish I had never met’, who knows..

Or maybe that man who he was depressed because he did not marry would turn into someone whose face he would not want to see in the future..

Or he felt like a failure because he could not sign that contract with that company. Maybe he would be scammed because of that signature..

Or he did everything to have a child but it didn't happen. Maybe that child would be a child he would say, 'I wish I had given birth to a stone instead of giving birth to you'..

So he did his best but he was very unhappy because he didn't get what he wanted. Or he did his best and he was very happy because he did his best and the result was exactly what he wanted. What a great illusion. Yet both of them were just questions waiting to be answered. The expectation of the person who prepared the questions was that they would do their best. One was not a reward, the other was not a punishment!

Sometimes you have to be thrown into a well to become a ruler. Sometimes you have to be swallowed by a fish to understand your mistake. One day, you have to be thrown into fire with a catapult or have to be patient when those who put tripe on your back make fun of you. Sometimes you have to be stoned by the people in order to succeed. At that moment, the results seem very negative. But you react in such a way that you stand out from billions of people and come out on top. There is only one way to succeed in the exam. To understand the question correctly.

Let our worst day be like this. Let's give the right reaction not only when we are happy but also when we are not happy. Let's live in such a way that... no matter what the outcome is, our reaction will be the right one... it will always take us better than today...
